How To Download Mods & Custom Content In The Sims 4
In this post you will find a simple step by step tutorial on how to enable, download, and install mods and custom content for the Sims 4. For a more in depth tutorial please watch my video on the whole process. Links to mods mentioned in the video can be found below as well. Please follow along carefully and make sure to complete each step before moving on. If mods still are not working, I highly recommend STARTING OVER and repeating the process because more often then not, a step was missed. Here are the steps to downloading & installing mods and custom content in your game.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Download & Install a program to unzip files such as Winrar or 7 Zip
Download & Installation:
1. Enable Your Mods In-Game
Enable Mods & Custom Content In Your Sims 4 options menu. Then, exit the game to save the change.
2. Install Downloads Into Your Mods Folder
Move the mods or cc you have installed into your sims 4 mod folder (Documents/Sims 4/Mods). Unzip files if necessary (using WIN RAR or 7 ZIP) so you are left with .package and .script files. DELETE ZIP FILES BEFORE MOVING ON.
3. Make sure script files are NOT more than 1 sub folder deep in the Mods folder.
You should keep your mods organized but be sure not to have script files in more than one sub folder! This means you can create ONE folder within your sims 4 mod and store your script files in there. Package files however, can be up to 5 folders deep.
4. Restart Your Game
You may now restart your game. Loading times vary depending on how many mods & cc you have so be prepared to wait if you have a large mod folder like I do! When you first load into the game you will get a pop up listing all of the mods and custom content you have active in your game. Here you can check to make sure the files you downloaded and installed are actually working. This list will pop up every time you start up your game and will significantly increase loading times for that initial waiting period. I recommend DISABLING this menu altogether once you get the hang of installing mods properly. You can do so by checking the box in the lower left corner that says DISBLE POP UP. If you ever wish to reenable it, go to the OPTIONS MENU.
If you a see everything you've downloaded then Congratulations! You have succeeded!
